A case of bacteremia caused by Salmonella Chester with prolonged fever and few digestive symptoms

Non-typhoidal Salmonella（NTS）infection frequently causes acute gastroenteritis, which occasionally becomes exacerbated with bacteremia and focal infection. In the present case, we introduce a case of NTS bacteremia with few digestive symptoms and mild inflammatory reactions. A 12-year-old girl with general malaise, anorexia, and stomatitis was admitted to our hospital on day 10 after developing a fever, with Salmonella Chester（S. Chester）detected in blood culture. NTS bacteremia causes few digestive symptoms and mild inflammatory reactions, and, therefore, is unlikely to cause organ-specific symptoms, resulting in fever of unknown origin. Hence, patients with aphthous stomatitis and eosinopenia need to be differentially diagnosed for NTS infection.
