Seven pediatric pertussis cases were diagnosed using the Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) method. All cases had completed the standard Japanese DPT vaccine series two to ten years ago and no severe cases were found. One case, a four year old female presented to the clinic with atypical pertussis symptoms. However, pertussis was diagnosed by using the LAMP method. Due to this early diagnosis, her three month old sister was placed on prophylaxis early and enabled protection from pertussis infection. More frequent utilization of the LAMP method can prevent more vulnerable infants and children from pertussis.
