To contribute to the strategy for pertussis prevention, including vaccination, in Japan, we investigated the value of antibodies against pertussis toxin (PT) and filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA) among children, neonates, and their mothers who were admitted into our hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 104 children and 28 neonates who entered NICU and 26 of their mothers were enrolled. The positive rates of both antibodies with values >10 EU/mL were 80−90%, 40−50%, and 70−80% among 6〜11-month-old, 5〜9-year-old, and 10〜14-year-old children, respectively. Even among children who had received their fourth vaccination against pertussis, these rates were 70−80%. The respective rates of neonates and their mothers were 40% and 50%. The ratio of geometrical mean titer of cord bloods to the mothers were 0.86 for PT antibodies and 1.16 for FHA antibodies. These data were almost the same as that of a previous report in Japan except for the ratio of geometrical mean titer of cord bloods to the mothers for PT antibodies. The resurgence of pertussis cases in the near future is expected due to relief from the prevention of COVID-19. Furthermore, the target population of our research are those with a high risk of pertussis, which would possibly be revealed as nosocomial infections. Therefore, it is considered necessary to continue our investigation in the future.
