Outpatient therapy for pneumonia and bronchitis with guidelines for the management of respiratory infectious diseases in children in Japan
Ikuko INAI
This study investigated 645 outpatient children with pneumonia and bronchitis between January 2016 and December 2018, and also evaluated the utility of guidelines for the management of respiratory infectious diseases in children in Japan. Some cases were prescribed antibiotics before visiting this hospital, which were not recommended by the guidelines. Further information on the guidelines is needed. In this study, most cases received outpatient therapy as recommended by the guidelines, and as they improved with outpatient therapy, the guidelines were therefore thought to be useful. However, five cases of under 5 year-olds with Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Haemophilus
influenzae finally needed hospital admission. Therefore, it is suggested that further therapeutic strategy against H. influenzae and M. pneumoniae will be needed in the future.
