Kawasaki disease developing during the course of herpes zoster by varicella vaccine strain
Keisuke OYATANI1), Hiroyuki TSUTSUMI2)
This paper describes a 1-year-6-month old boy who suffered from herpes zoster. He also developed Kawasaki disease (KD) during its course. The patient had no history of varicella, but had had a varicella vaccination six months previously. A varicella zoster virus (VZV) gene could be detected in his blisters, and sequence analysis revealed that it was a varicella vaccine strain. Therefore, revitalization of varicella vaccine virus could be associated with the onset of KD.
