Epidemiological methods for pediatricians
Takashi YORIFUJI1)
Based on my presentation at the 48th annual meeting of the Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, I introduced epidemiological methods for pediatricians to read epidemiological papers or conduct epidemiological studies. After providing definitions of epidemiology as well as some epidemiological terms, I discussed several points we should be concerned about when we make an epidemiological study plan. I also introduced further readings. Recent advancement in the data collection provides us an opportunity to conduct epidemiological studies efficiently. Evaluating the hypothesis pediatricians come across at their daily clinical practices could achieve the theme of the meeting. I hope this paper helps somehow when they try to conduct epidemiological studies.
