This paper reports a case of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) complicating rotavirus gastroenteritis. It has been strongly suggested that rotavirus infection could cause extraintestinal clinical manifestations. Over 90% of HUS cases in children are caused by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) infection; while the remainder is referred to as atypical HUS. All examinations in the case of this study could not detect EHEC infection, the patient might be the first reported case of HUS developing as an extraintestinal manifestation of rotavirus infection.
