A 5-week-old baby experienced severe pneumonia due to nontypable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi). Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease is decreasing gradually in Japan, since the Hib vaccine has been available. On the other hand, an effective vaccine for NTHi does not exsist, therefore NTHi is still a common pathogen of community-aquired pneumonia. Considering the expansion of antibiotic-resistant bacteria., the proper use of antibiotics is needed.
