One hundred and forty-nine children were admitted to our pediatric department with rotavirus (RV) gastroenteritis and evaluated between April 2012 and March 2013, shortly after the RV vaccine had become available. Fifty four percent of them were aged 2 years or younger, and 85% were severe, with a Vesikari score higher than 11 points. Complications in the central nervous system were observed in 14 children (9%), but they healed without sequelae. The genotypes in 54 children could be examined, and all (G9P 50%, G1P 44%, G3P 6%) of them were covered by the RV vaccine.
