A one year five month old female infant developed pneumococcal meningitis one month after the first inoculation of heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7). The pneumococcal serotype was 24F which was non-vaccine serotypes (NVT) not included in PCV7. She recovered immediately without sequelae by conventional therapy. Rare serotype such as 24F is not included in PCV13 or PPV23. It is forewarned that invasive pneumococcal disease by non-vaccine serotypes would increase in Japan.
