Anti-Hib antibody before and after initial inoculation of Hib vaccine in children aged one year and over
Yukiteru TACHIBANA
The number of doses of Hib vaccine indicated depends on the age which immunization is begun. Previously unvaccinated children 1 to 4 years of age should receive 1 dose of Hib vaccine in Japan. We studied the anti-Hib IgG antibody before and after vaccination of 19 children aged 1 year and over who received a single dose of Hib vaccine. 80% of the targeted children showed the presence of antibody values greater than the infection prevention. Also, after vaccination, the long-term infection prevention level was acquired in all the cases. These results suggested that the exposure to Hib is a naturally acquired immunity among infants of one year old or younger in this study. Thus, it is necessary to recommend starting the administration of the vaccination earlier during the infant stage according to the regular schedule.
