A case of enteric fever experienced in a community hospital after revision of the Japanese law of infectious diseases in 2006

Atsushi ISOZAKI

A six-year old boy was admitted because of prolonged febrile state and diarrhea. We diagnosed enteric fever because Salmonella typhi was isolated from the blood and stool. After his admission his mother was demonstrated to be a carrier of S. typhi. We speculated that the pathogen was transmitted to him from his mother in Japan. Since the law of infectious diseases was revised in 2006, general pediatricians should understand the treatment of enteric fever.
