A diagnostic kit (ODK0501) for detecting a Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) antigen was evaluated using rhinopharyngeal swabs from 105 children with pneumonia or acute bronchitis. ODK0501 has been designed to specifically detect C-polysaccharide (C-ps), a cell wall antigen of S. pneumoniae. Sensitivity, specificity, and concordance rate were 66.0% (33/50), 100% (55/55), and 83.8% (88/105), respectively, demonstrating the usefulness of the kit as a rapid assay for pneumococcal respiratory tract infections in children.
