We investigated the causal relationship between the administration of oseltamivir and the occurrence of neurological complications like abnormal behaviors in 90 hospitalized children with influenza at three hospitals, which are designated to treat infant emergency cases in Okayama City during the 2006-2007 influenza season. Of these children, 33 (37%) exhibited convulsions, while 16 (18%) exhibited different types of abnormal behavior. A total of 59 children were administered oseltamivir, and of these, 7 (12%) exhibited convulsions, while 7 (12%) exhibited different types of abnormal behavior after taking this drug. In conclusion, these findings suggest that the administration of oseltamivir is not a risk factor for the occurrence of convulsion or abnormal behaviors in children suffering from influenza.
