The Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases is the successor to the “Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases” established in 1969 and the “Japanese Society for Pediatric Viral Diseases” established in 1970, respectively by researchers eager to collect and to learn purely academic achievements that transcend politics and policy in the period of an active student movement. In 1987, these two societies were absorbed into the 19th meeting of the Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases, which comprehensively covers microorganisms including viruses and pediatric infectious diseases, pediatric immunology, and vaccinations. In addition, the society has been publishing “The Journal of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Immunology” four times a year since 1989 to present and disseminate research results as academic achievements. After 30 years, the society was dissolved into the General Incorporated Association Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases in 2020. The society has grown into a large academic society consisting of about 3,000 members.
In 2018, during the 50th year from the establishment of the “Japanese Society for Pediatric Viral Diseases, ” the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases / the 9th Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ACPID 2018) were jointly held in Fukuoka City. In 2016, the society launched a qualification system for trainers of pediatric infectious diseases (board-certified specialists), which is the education and training system of the society. The society has been qualifying registered specialists since 2019, and trainers (board-certified specialists) since 2020.
